Maxdale
Maxdale is a scenic town located in McLennan County, Texas, just 20 minutes north of Waco. It’s hard to imagine a town named Maxdale, Texas, but the city does have a claim to fame. Prior to 1917, the town was called Orient, and it was home to the famous Orient Tunnel. Orient Tunnel was a railroad tunnel on the Sabine River. A wooden railroad bridge was constructed in 1901, but floods and accidents forced this bridge to be replaced several times, until in 1917 it was replaced with a concrete structure. Railroads still owned the bridge, and by 1926, a Texas and Pacific Railroads freight train derailed and broke through the bridge. The rail car landed on the Sabine River bank, killing 12 people and injuring 20.
Maxdale, Texas is a small town situated in Collin County, 19 miles south of Frisco and 22 miles north of McKinney.
