Fort Hood
Fort Hood is a large military base in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. It was established on February 6, 1942 and is named in honor of Confederate General John Bell Hood. It is the home base of the United States Army’s 1st Cavalry Division, 1st Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team. In addition, Fort Hood hosts 3 military schools: the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the United States Army War College, and the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. The 2011 census reports that there are 22,000 families living on Fort Hood, including 8,700 single-parent households.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), United States Army Reserve, and the United States Army Center of Military History have jointly managed Fort Hood since 1924. In February 2014, the U.S. Department of Defense transferred responsibility for the base from the U.S. Army to the U.S. Army Reserve.

The Fort Hood, TX community of Fort Hood is one of the largest military installations in the world, and it’s located in the Texas town Killeen. The Fort Hood installation is a little over 200 square miles, and it covers 12 major cities of Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Belton, Temple, Troy, Gatesville, Nolanville, Troy, and Salado. These communities are all part of the Fort Hood installation, and Fort Hood is the 18th largest military installation in the world. Fort Hood is home to a large population of military personnel and their families; there are 80,000 plus military members who live in Fort Hood, Fort Hood, and their families.
Fort Hood is a US Army base in Texas, and the military is currently recruiting to fill the many open positions. The 75,000 person strong base is located 70 miles southeast of Austin and about 80 miles northwest of San Antonio. The base first opened in 1907 as the sprawling Camp Hood. For the next 75 years, Camp Hood was used to maintain the US Army’s arsenals and supply depots.
The Fort Hood division of the U.S. Military is the largest hub of military activity in the country. It is home to the U.S. army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division as well as the U.S. Army Soldier Center, the nation’s center for soldier, family, and community.
