Stillhouse Hollow Lake
Stillhouse Hollow Lake is a natural lake in Belton in Texas. It is situated just north of the city center between University Drive and Industrial Drive. Its southern boundary is marked by a large bend in the Cedar Creek, which flows into the lake from several creeks that feed it. The lake covers an area of about 8 acres and has a maximum depth of 20 feet.
The Stillhouse Hollow Lake has a rich history associated with its namesake. In 1866, the site was purchased by Jules Philippe Roullier, an immigrant from Switzerland who opened up his plantation as a cotton farm. The plantation’s original house still stands as one of Belton’s historical landmarks known as ‘Wisteria Hall’ or ‘Roullier Mansion’. After passing through different owners over time, the plantation became part of the city in 1984 when it was designated as part of Belton’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department before being added to the city park system in 1989.
