Harker Heights is located in Fort Bend County, about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Houston and west of Belton. Harker Heights was established in 1866 by pioneer John Scott Harker (1822-1904). According to local legend, he owned a large herd of cattle which he used to trade with settlers in exchange for land to start his farm.
